Protecting Your Electrical Equipment

August 16, 2022 by Scot Gerardi

Protecting any electronic equipment like a TV or computer is critical. An electric surge or a lightning strike can ruin your equipment. I know first hand how that works. Lightning struck a townhouse 5 houses away from mine. The surge went through those houses and destroyed my TV and cable box. My equipment was not protected. NOW I protect all my equipment with a surge protector or a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) from APC.

APC Surge Protectors:

You can buy them at Amazon or from other major retailers. They are reliable and have a lifetime warranty. Each surge protector comes with a connected equipment protection policy. For the most part APC surge protectors are moderately priced. Some models come with usb chargers, protected Ethernet ports and coaxial cables connectors. Considering that your equipment is not cheap, spending from $10 – $45 to protect it is well worth the cost.

Cheaper APC UPS models:

Higher end APC UPS models:

You can buy APC UPS’s from Amazon or from other major retailers. All UPS models come with surge and battery backup outlets. Some come with usb charging, protected Ethernet ports and coaxial cable connectors. Check the specifications of the model that interests you before you buy. Prices start at around $70 to about $350. Each UPS comes with a connected equipment protection policy. The average life of a UPS battery is about 5 years but depends on how often your power goes out.
